Article

(February 9, 1990) The first step towards building a European Pacific Network was begun in October 1989 at a Pacific Colloquium meeting in Paris, France.

(326-327.3266) WISE Amsterdam - Delegates from Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Belgium joined French colleagues. Among participants were Kanak and Tahitian students studying in France and John Doom from the Pacific desk of the World Council of Churches.

Participants decided to meet regularly, once a year. John Doom will facilitate communication and coordination through his office. Also, a committee which includes Madeleine Helmer (ICCO), Hannes Gansbauer (EMW), Marie-Christine Held-Griffon (DEFAP), and Gilbert Tinembart (Genf), was formed.

The network will seek greater solidarity with Kanaky and Tahiti-Polynesia. Participants discussed bringing a high-ranking Pacific delegation to Europe to speak out against French nuclear testing in Tahiti. Arrangements for a second meeting have already begun.
