What is nuclear power,

Nuclear power is the use of sustained nuclear fission to generate heat and electricity. Nuclear power plants provide about 6% of the world's energy and 13–14% of the world's electricity. Before the disaster in Fukushima (March 2011), the U.S., France and Japan together accounted for about 50% of nuclear generated electricity. After fukushima Japan decided to take all 54 reactors (temporarily) off-grid. As of 1 March 2012, there were 429 reactors “in operation” in the world. That is 15 units less than at the historic maximum of 444 plants in 2002. Also, more than 150 naval vessels using nuclear propulsion have been built.
